The symposium will bring together a range of concerned parties including Scottish Quakers, other churches and faith communities, and local organisations working on economic justice.
Sally Foster-Fulton, head of Christian Aid in Scotland and former chair of the Church of Scotland Church and Society Council will chair the symposium. There will be three speakers:
The weekend will start with dinner on Friday evening and end after lunch on Sunday.
The programme will be tailored to hopefully meet the needs of those taking part but will possibly include sessions on Exploring Meeting for Worship, What does it mean to be a Quaker?, How our structures work and who does what, How we do business, Why membership? and Ways into membership. There will be plenty of time for discussion.
The cost is £200 which includes full board and lodging.
At the invitation of library staff, we shall be making a presentation on Quakers and conscientious objection in Edinburgh Central Library, George IV Bridge. There will be a short presentation on WW1 conscientious objection, focusing on Quakers, as part of a WW1 centenary series of library events. Three Quakers (two of whom were WW2 COs) will speak about their experience and convictions and we hope to make time for questions and answers/ discussion. All are welcome. Come to the main Library entrance and ask for directions.
